Biography

Jess Filosa joined the Ph.D. program in the Accounting and Information Systems department at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2019 and will be graduating in May 2024. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 2015 and her M.S. in Accounting from the University of Virginia in 2016. Before joining the Ph.D. program, Jess worked as an IT auditor for three years at Ernst & Young in the Richmond, VA and Cleveland, OH offices. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Jess’ research interests include audit, risk oversight, and information technology. She primarily conducts archival research but is also interested in qualitative research. At Virginia Tech, Jess has taught Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Managerial Accounting, and Accounting Information Systems. She also served as the Virginia Tech co-advisor for the Deloitte Audit Innovation Campus Challenge. She is the recipient of several competitive awards including the AICPA Foundation William (Bill) Ezzell Scholarship, the Deloitte Foundation Doctoral Fellowship, and a Pamplin College of Business Summer Research Grant.
