Biography
Carissa Malone joined the PhD program in the Accounting and Information Systems department at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2017. Her research focuses on the judgment and decision making of auditors. Prior to enrolling in the PhD program, she worked in auditing and accounting compliance across various industries including non-profit, oil and gas, consulting, and retail. Most recently, she worked in accounting and grants management at Arnold Ventures (formerly, the Laura and John Arnold Foundation). Carissa earned an MBA in accounting from the University of St. Thomas – Houston and a bachelor's degree in anthropology from The University of Texas at Austin. She is an AICPA Doctoral Fellow and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society and The PhD Project. In 2021, Carissa received the Best PhD Student Paper Award from the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association and the Center for Audit Quality Access to Audit Personnel Grant.
