David P. Tegarden
Associate Professor of Information Systems and Computer Science
David P. Tegarden is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Pamplin College of Business. He also holds an appoint ment (by courtesy) in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering. Dr. Tegarden was also one of the founding fellows in the Center for Human-Computer Interaction at Virginia Tech. Dr. Tegarden received the BBA in Information Systems from Middle Tennessee State University in 1980; the MS in Accounting/Information Systems from Middle Tennessee State University in 1981; and the PhD in Information Systems from the University of Colorado in 1991. His minor area, in his PhD, was Computer Science where he specialized in Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Management. Since his PhD, his primary teaching areas have been in information systems development.
Dr. Tegarden has several journal articles that have appeared in journals such as Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, International Journal of Human Computer Studies, Journal of Emerging Technologies in Accounting, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Systems and Software, Object-Oriented Systems, Omega, and Software Quality Journal. Dr. Tegarden has also had papers presented at the Academy of Management, the Americas Conference on Information Systems, the Association for Computational Social and Organizational Science Conference, the Continuous Assurance Symposium, the Group Decision and Negotiation Conference, the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, the INFORMS Conference, the INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technologythe International Conference on Software Quality and Productivity, the International Resource Management Association Conference, the OOPSLA Workshop on Processes and Metrics for Object-Oriented Software Development, PRIISM International Conference Proceedings, the Rocky Mountain Conference on Artificial Intelligence, and the Symposium on Information Systems Assurance.
Dr. Tegarden is on the editorial board of Journal of Database Management and has been an ad-hoc reviewer for journals such as Communications of the Association for Computing Machinery, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, Data and Knowledge Engineering, Decision Sciences, Decision Support Systems, Group Decision and Negotiation, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Information Systems Research, Information Technology and Management, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Information and Software Technology, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, Management Information Systems Quarterly, and Object-Oriented Systems. He has served on the program committees for the HCI/MIS Workshop, the International ER Workshop on Quality of Information Systems, and the Workshop on Information Technology and Systems and has been an ad-hoc reviewer for the Accounting Information Systems Research Symposium, the Americas Conference on Information Systems, the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, the International Conference on Information Systems, the International Research Symposium on Accounting Information Symposium, and the Workshop on Information Technology and Systems.
Dr. Tegarden has been a grant reviewer for the Colorado Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the Louisiana Board of Regents, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. He also has received both external and internal research funding from organizations such as ATT, California State University at San Bernardino, IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, Texas Instruments, University of Denver, and Virginia Tech. He is a member of Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), Association for Information Systems (AIS), Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility (CPSR), The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers – Computer Society (IEEE-CS), and The Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS).
