Biography

Michelle’s research interests are in corporate governance, governance structures, including social network effects, board behavior, minority shareholder expropriation and financial disclosure. She has several papers with settings in Asian capital markets and in IT governance.

Her dissertation investigated the use of status as a mechanism to control corporate boards around two Hong Kong regulations that increase board independence, and specifically examined shifts in within-board relative status and financial reporting.

She has co-authored papers that examine minority shareholder expropriation and financial disclosure in Hong Kong/China settings. She also has projects related to IT governance and board oversight of cybersecurity.

Her honors and grants include being a co-investigator of two Hong Kong University Grants Council GRF Grants, Best Paper Award at the 2017 Symposium of Accounting, Auditing and Corporate Governance Practices in China and a recipient of the Hong Kong Postgraduate Fellowship Award.

Michelle is a certified public accountant and has seven years of regional public accounting firm experience in Arizona and Utah, most recently as a manager in taxation.
