Biography

Robert Stephen Ricks, Jr. embarked on his academic journey in the Accounting and Information Systems Department at Virginia Tech in the fall of 2024. His transition to the PhD program marks a new chapter in a distinguished career that bridges both public accounting and industry experience.

Robert's professional path began shortly after earning his undergraduate degree. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and a Master of Accounting, both from Auburn University. He is also a licensed CPA in the state of Alabama.

Upon completing his studies, Robert began his career in public accounting with Deloitte (Big 4) in Atlanta. His experience at Deloitte continued through the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing him with a solid foundation in financial practices, taxation, and client management. Eventually, Robert moved back to Alabama, where he later transitioned into a tax department industry role, applying his expertise to various organizational settings. His diverse experiences in the field have equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and their practical applications.

Outside of his professional life, Robert is an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys riding his bike, finding solace and joy in nature's landscapes. Additionally, he has a passion for sitting down with friends and family to play board games, which reflects his love for strategy and fun.

As Robert continues his PhD studies, he is contemplating a research focus in financial archival. This focus aligns with his interest in the preservation and analysis of financial records, aiming to contribute valuable insights to the field of accounting.
