Biography
Dr. Michelle Harding joined the Pamplin College of Business in the fall of 2017 after completing her Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee. She also holds a B.S. and M.S. in Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and is licensed as a CPA in the state of Florida. Prior to entering academia, she worked as a controller for a subsidiary of Fortune 100 company in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Harding’s research interests include examining disclosure incentives in corporate tax and governance settings. Her dissertation examines the impact of increased private tax disclosure to the IRS on the quality of public tax disclosures. She teaches corporate and individual taxation for undergraduates. Dr. Harding will present her research during the 2024-2025 academic year for invited presentations at University of Virginia, University of South Florida, Texas Tech University, and National Tax Association Annual Meeting. Her research is published in the Journal of the American Taxation Association, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy. Dr. Harding is a proud first-generation college student and received the 2021 Pamplin College of Business Faculty Diversity Advocate Award. Dr. Harding acknowledges the invaluable doctoral support received from the AICPA Doctoral Fellowship, KPMG Doctoral Fellowship, and the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance Doctoral Scholarship.
