Kenneth E. Cooke, Class of 1992, has been awarded the 2020 Top 50 Financial Leaders award.  Mr. Cooke will be honored at the 2020 National Diversity and Leadership Conference and Career Expo in Houston, Texas April 20 & 21, 2020.

Kenneth Cooke is a Vice President Controller at American Express where he supports special projects for the Global Controllership and Accounting Policy organizations, as well as various other initiatives across American Express Controllership. Kenneth has over 25 years of experience in controllership with various companies.

Prior to joining American Express, he spent 12.5 years at Goldman Sachs where he was a Senior Vice President leading multiple teams, including the Global Derivatives Disclosures Team responsible for OTC/Listed Derivatives for SEC reporting and Regulatory filings.  He also was responsible for driving functional and data strategies that enabled the transformation and automation of regulatory reporting.  

Kenneth graduated from Virginia Tech and is a Virginia licensed CPA.  He was the 25th National Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (“NABA”) and is a lifetime member remaining actively engaged with the organization.  Kenneth has previously served as NABA’s treasurer and parliamentarian, as well as many other National and Regional committee leadership positions. He also currently serves on the AICPA Academics Executive Committee, the Virginia Tech School of Business and the Accounting Department Advisory Boards and is the scholarship chair of the Richmond African-American Scholarship Fund.
