Biography
Alicia Li joined the Ph.D. program in Accounting and Information Systems at Virginia Tech in Fall 2023, drawing on industry experience from her role as Tax Manager at Deloitte San Jose, California office. At Deloitte, she specialized in global employer services and mobility tax within the technology sector, providing strategic tax advisory services to international mobility clients and managed global engagement billing and procurement practices. This experience gave her deep insights into corporate decision-making processes and management behavior within large organizations. Her transition from practice to academia reflects her interest in examining how corporate governance mechanisms and monitoring systems influence firm performance.
Her current research focuses on corporate governance, audit, and corporate philanthropy, with emphasis on audit committee functions.
At Virginia Tech, Alicia taught fundamentals of Financial Accounting, where she drew upon her industry expertise to provide students with practical insights alongside accounting foundations.
She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in both California and Virginia. Alicia holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech and a master's degree in accounting from Syracuse University.
In her spare time, she is enthusiastic about improving her tennis skills. She also enjoys doing yoga and takes care of her two dogs.
