Biography
Dr. Barkhi’s current research emphases are in the areas of the design of GDSS and Organizational Integration Systems, distributed decision making, design of telecommunication networks, and economics of information systems. He has several journal articles that have appeared in journals like Journal of Management Information Systems, Location Science , Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Operational Research , Group Decision and Negotiation Journal, Journal of Educational Technology Systems, Computers and OR, Interantional Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Systems, Journal of End-User Computing, Information Technology & Decision Making, Engineering Applications in Artifical Intelligence, Journal of global Information Technology management, and Journal of Computing and Electronic Comemrce. He is a member of Association for Information Systems (AIS), The Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), and Decision Sciences Institute (DSI).
Reza is on the Editorial Board of Computers & OR Journal, and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for many other Journals such as Decision Support Systems, Decision Sciences, Management Science , European Jouranl of Operational Research, Operations Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, and Computers & OR among others. He has also reviewd proposals for National Science Foundation. He has served on the Program Committee of INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST) during 1997, 1998, and 1999. and on the Program Committee of Worshop on Infomration Technlogy Systems (WITS) during 2002. He has been an invited session chair for INFROMS in the 1997 Dallas conference and for IRMA 1999 Hershey/PA conference.
Dr. Barkhi has far ranging experience in software development. He has been both an academic and a practitioner in software development for many years. His programming experience includes languages like Basic, Visual Basic, C, C++, COBOL, Pascal, Fortran, LISP, PROLOG, among others.
He has taught at Virginia Tech, University of Massachusetts, and The Ohio State University. His teaching portfolio includes Management Information Systems, Database Management Systems, Advanced Database Systems, Executive MBA Information Systems, Telecommunication Systems, Decision Theory, Operations Management, Statistics for Management, Business Process Reengineering, Business Application Development using Visual Basic, Management Information Sytems & Technologies, and Ph.D. Research Seminar.
Reza is one of the founding members of the Center for Global Electronic Commerce at Virginia Tech. He is also a faculty advisor to the Information System Society student club in the department of Accounting & information Systems at Virginia Tech. He organized a Study Abroad Program during Summer 2002 (will also do during Summer 2003) and took about 40 students from Virginia Tech Freiburg, Germany for eight weeks. Students learned about Information Technology and Electronic Commerce as well as the European Union by many company visits and visits to the European Commission and The United States mission to the European Union. Reza is also the chair of the Diversity Committee in College of Business at Virginia Tech during 2002-2003.
