Biography

Gregory Kogan, CPA, joined the faculty of Virginia Tech in 2022.  He was previously a professor of practice in accounting as well as an accounting professional in public and private practice, most recently as a Controller at Tiger Management. Prior to joining Tiger Management, Gregory was a senior auditor at Ernst & Young in the Asset Management Division in New York. Gregory is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he earned a B.S in Computer Science and an M.B.A in Accounting. He has completed his PhD studies in Accounting at the University of Scranton in 2022.

Gregory’s research interests include data analytics in accounting, IT governance and assurance, and emerging technologies in accounting. His research is published in journals such as Strategic Finance and Internal Auditor. He is the co-author of Self-service Data Analytics Governance for Managers published by Wiley, a practice-oriented book that provides an overview of an internal control and risk-management governance framework for accounting processes that have been automated by data analytics and automations tools.

Gregory is an active member of accounting professional and academic organizations and is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA), Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
