Biography

Dr. Kimberly Walker received her Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and her B.S. and M.S. degrees from North Carolina State University. She is a licensed CPA in North Carolina with over six years of professional experience as an external and internal auditor. Before entering academia, she served as an IT Audit Manager at Carlisle in North Carolina, where she focused on operational and compliance audits.

Dr. Walker’s research examines factors influencing auditors’ judgment and decision-making in financial reporting contexts. Her work explores issues related to fraud brainstorming, professional skepticism, and corporate governance. Her research has been published in The Accounting Review and has received recognition from the American Accounting Association, including the Best Paper Award at the 2023 Audit Midyear Meeting and the 2018 Diversity Section Midyear Meeting. She has also been awarded multiple Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) and KPMG Access to Personnel Grants.

Dr. Walker teaches Introduction to Financial Statement Auditing and Introduction to Auditing at the undergraduate level and is passionate about preparing future accounting professionals to think critically about audit quality, ethics, and team decision-making.
