Jason Kies '03
Jason Kies, CPA, is a 2003 graduate of Pamplin’s Master of Accounting Program with a concentration in Financial Services. Having received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Pamplin a year earlier, Jason knows the value of a Pamplin education. The knowledge he gained and the experiences he had in Blacksburg provided a strong foundation enabling him to adapt, persevere, and grow in the ever-changing global economy and were without question, true lessons and building blocks for career success.
While in the Master’s Program, Jason had the opportunity to study abroad and serve as a graduate assistant in Freiburg, Germany. This sparked his interest in international business and travel, and started him on the path of having a global perspective on accounting and business practices.
Jason is currently a Partner in KPMG’s Private Equity practice, and his career in auditing and advising large, diversified, multi-national institutions has taken him around the world and given him insight into several industries. He has been at KPMG his entire career, starting as an intern in the Richmond office in 2001 and staying there through Senior Associate, after which he was transferred to the Zurich, Switzerland office in KPMG’s US Accounting and Reporting Group where he practiced for the next four years. In 2011, Jason then took that experience to New York and joined the Private Equity practice, where he has been since 2011. He entered the Partnership in 2015 and now oversees some of the Firm’s largest global private equity firms.
In addition to the strong values and solid work-ethic instilled in him by his parents, Jason’s coursework at Pamplin during his undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as his experience abroad, gave him the skills that enabled him to quickly advance his career which has provided great professional satisfaction. With firsthand knowledge of the education received, Jason looks to hire graduates of Virginia Tech, knowing they will be well-prepared to serve clients and make valuable contributions to the Firm.
Jason is a proud Hokie and enjoys giving back to a school that has given him so much. He recently became a member of the Pamplin Advisory Council, the main advisory board for the business school, and also joined the Accounting Department Advisory Board. Furthermore, Jason has served as the Membership and Recruiting Chair on the Executive Leadership Team of the Pamplin Society for the last four years. Jason also enjoys watching and cheering on the Hokies football team with his wife Lauren and son Jackson.
